October and all

I finally have the graphite pencil tessellation shading assignment marked. There are still a few people who I need to summon up to the desk but the majority are marked. I need to enter those marks as well as the colour theory quiz marks and then I can return these items to you. This brings us to the colour pencil tessellation assignment which will be revealed on Tuesday. It should be interesting. I hope. The next unit that is up coming is clay. It should prove to be interesting. See you in room 3!

Shading and the boredom

Dear Grade Nine Class
I am sorry to hear that you find the shading assignment boring and not to your liking. It is sad that you are compelled to spend much valuable in class time complaining and be unproductive. Has it occurred to you yet that this might be a diagnostic test? Perhaps the teacher has more than the goal of simply shading working here? Is it possible that your work habits, your determination and your time management skills are being observed? Sometimes it isn't about the destination but instead it is about the journey.

Week 2 begins

It is already the second week! It was such a busy first week that I didn't get a chance to blog about room 3 and the happenings. By now you should have your sketchbook and be drawing. Today we are doing a small object drawing of blocks and will be having a pencil discovery. We will then move into one point perspective and drawing little boxes. Good fun! So for the next little while it will be all about pencil drawing. See you in room 3!

The last of August

This happens at the end of every August. I am sad as the end of summer approaches. The days begin to get slightly shorter and the Back To School sales begin. But I brighten up when I think about returning to school and seeing my friends. I assemble my school supplies and begin the preparations for a new year. My classroom looks amazing thanks to our wonderful custodians and I am kind of excited about getting back.  Take care. See you Tuesday.

It's December!

Welcome to the first day of December and it starting to get very busy around room 3. Pen and ink is continuing through the next two projects and  I am beginning to collect interesting textures for the next grade 10 unit. Everyone seems to be progressing on the portrait drawing . There will be another new sketchbook exercise forthcoming. Tomorrow is Friday and I say "hooray!"

Survivor - Report Card Edition

Report Cards have been distributed and I am now fighting the usual post-report card virus. I think it is the stress. No matter how I plan to avoid the last minute flurry of marking and assignment collecting it inevitably happens. There are students, I have begun to understand, that cannot work unless a large deadline is about to drop on them. Think the cartoon anvil/piano dropping from the sky. So we are all going to work on some pen and ink designs with a dash of some art history.  And there will also be ubiquitos knitting :)
Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends and Happy Weekend to everyone else!
